Description
1,2-Dimethoxyethane (CAS 110-71-4) is an ether-based solvent commonly known as DME, monoglyme, glyme, or EGDME. It carries no assigned E-code. Its low coordinating polarity and ability to solvate metal cations make it a preferred medium in organometallic and electrochemical systems.
In pharmaceutical synthesis and battery electrolyte formulations, DME stabilizes reactive lithium and boron intermediates by coordinating through its two oxygen atoms, improving reaction selectivity and yield. It also functions as a crosslinking co-solvent in polymer curing systems, where controlled solvation accelerates network formation at lower temperatures.
DME is supplied as an anhydrous-grade liquid meeting REACH registration requirements under EC 203-794-9 (HS 29091900). Pharma-grade material is available in compliance with Ph.Eur. solvent specifications. Standard packaging includes drums and IBC containers, with documentation supporting GMP procurement workflows across EU member states.
