1,3-Diolein

1,3-Diolein (CAS 25637-84-7) is a diglyceride ester of oleic acid in which two fatty acid chains are positioned at the 1 and 3 carbons of the glycerol backbone. It is also known commercially as DGO 8, Nikkol DGO 80, and Diolein, and carries the EC number 247-144-2. No E-code designation applies to this substance.

In food and cosmetic emulsion systems, 1,3-Diolein functions as an emulsifier by reducing interfacial tension between oil and water phases, stabilising droplet distribution throughout the matrix. In personal care formulations it acts as a humectant, drawing and retaining moisture within the skin barrier. In metalworking lubricant blends, its ester structure provides boundary lubrication by adsorbing onto metal surfaces under load.

1,3-Diolein is supplied as a white to off-white soft solid and is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU market placement. Procurement teams should confirm grade specification against intended application, as food-contact and cosmetic uses may require additional purity documentation.
