Description
1,4-Butanediol diglycidyl ether (CAS 2425-79-8) is a bifunctional epoxide reactive diluent and crosslinker, commercially known under trade names including ARALDITE RD-2 and abbreviated as BDGE or Butanediol-DGE. It belongs to the glycidyl ether family and carries no assigned E-code.
In epoxy coating and adhesive formulations, BDGE reacts with amine or anhydride hardeners through its two terminal epoxide groups, reducing system viscosity while contributing to network crosslink density. In sealant and elastomer applications, it functions as a chain extender and flexibilizer, improving elongation without significantly compromising chemical resistance.
BDGE is supplied as a clear liquid and is available in industrial and research grades. The substance is registered under REACH (EC 219-371-7) and must be handled in accordance with applicable CLP classification requirements. Typical packaging includes drums and IBC containers; FCC or food-contact grade availability should be confirmed per order.
