Description
1,6-Hexanediol diacrylate (HDDA, also known as HDODA, SR 238, and C716) is a bifunctional acrylate monomer with CAS number 13048-33-4. It carries no assigned E-code and is commercially recognised under trade designations including hexamethylene diacrylate. Its dual acrylate functionality makes it reactive under both UV and thermal initiation conditions.
In radiation-curable coatings and adhesives, HDDA acts as a reactive diluent and crosslinker, forming covalent bridges between polymer chains to increase hardness, chemical resistance, and film integrity. In UV-curable printing inks, it controls viscosity during formulation while contributing to network density upon cure, directly influencing adhesion and abrasion performance.
HDDA is supplied as a liquid monomer and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. Procurement teams should confirm inhibitor levels and stabiliser packages, as these vary by grade and affect shelf life and reactivity. Standard packaging formats include drums and IBCs for bulk industrial supply.
