1-Monostearin

1-Monostearin is a monoglyceride ester derived from glycerol and stearic acid, with CAS number 22610-63-5. It is commercially available under trade names including Aldo 33, Aldo 75, Emalex GMS-A, and Emalex GMS-B, and is also referred to as glyceryl monostearate (GMS) or octadecanoin. No E-code designation applies to this specific isomer.

In food and pharmaceutical manufacturing, 1-Monostearin functions as an emulsifier by orienting its hydrophilic and lipophilic regions at oil-water interfaces, stabilising emulsions and controlling fat crystal structure in products such as margarines and tablet coatings. In polymer processing, it acts as a plasticiser and internal lubricant, reducing melt viscosity and improving surface finish in PVC and polyolefin compounds.

1-Monostearin is supplied as a technical or high-purity grade waxy solid, with pharmaceutical-grade material conforming to Ph.Eur. and FCC monographs where applicable.
