Description

18β-Glycyrrhetinic acid (CAS 471-53-4) is a pentacyclic triterpenoid derived from the hydrolysis of glycyrrhizin, the principal active constituent of liquorice root. It is commercially known under the trade names Enoxolone, Biosone, and ENOLOXONE, and is also referenced as Uralenic acid or Glycyrrhetin. No E-code designation applies.

In personal care formulations, 18β-Glycyrrhetinic acid functions as a skin conditioner by inhibiting 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, reducing local cortisol breakdown and supporting a soothing effect on sensitised skin. It also serves as a fragrance component in cosmetic products and contributes flavouring and acidulant properties in relevant applications where liquorice-derived character is required.

This material is supplied as a white to greyish-white crystalline powder meeting cosmetic and pharmaceutical grade specifications, with compliance applicable under REACH (EC 207-444-6). It is classified under HS code 29189900. Buyers should confirm grade-specific documentation, including certificate of analysis and safety data sheet, prior to procurement.
