2,5-Dimethyl-2,5-di(tert-butylperoxy)hexane

2,5-Dimethyl-2,5-di(tert-butylperoxy)hexane (CAS 78-63-7) is an organic diperoxide supplied as a colourless to light yellow liquid, commercially known under trade names including Luperox 101, Trigonox 101, and VAROX DBPH. It carries no assigned E-code and is registered under EC 201-128-1.

In plastics and polymer processing, it initiates free-radical cross-linking of polyethylene and silicone rubber by decomposing at elevated temperatures to generate reactive tert-butoxy radicals, which abstract hydrogen atoms and form covalent carbon-carbon bonds between polymer chains. It also serves as a high-temperature initiator for the grafting of maleic anhydride onto polyolefin backbones.

This product is available in technical grade and as diluted formulations on inert carriers to reduce handling hazards. It is subject to REACH registration and classified under EU transport regulations as an organic peroxide. Packaging formats typically include drums and IBCs suited to industrial volumes.
