2-Butyne-1,4-diol

In plastics and polymer stabilisation, 2-butyne-1,4-diol functions as a heat stabiliser by intercepting free radicals generated during thermal processing, slowing oxidative chain degradation. In metalworking and lubricant formulations, its hydroxyl and alkyne groups adsorb onto metal surfaces, forming a protective layer that inhibits corrosion. It also acts as an antimicrobial agent in textile and leather processing by disrupting microbial cell membrane integrity.
