Description
2-Ethylhexylamine (CAS 104-75-6) is a primary aliphatic amine derived from 2-ethylhexanol, commercially available under the names isooctylamine, octylamine, and 2-ethylhexanamine. It carries no E-code designation and is identified under EC 203-233-8. Its branched C8 chain gives it a balance of hydrophilicity and lipophilicity that distinguishes it from linear-chain amines.
In metalworking and lubricant formulations, 2-ethylhexylamine functions as a corrosion inhibitor by adsorbing onto metal surfaces through its amine group, displacing moisture and blocking oxidative attack. In water treatment and oilfield chemistry, it acts as a pH buffer and emulsifier, stabilising oil-water interfaces and neutralising acidic process streams. Mining operations use it as a collector or flotation aid in mineral separation circuits.
The product is supplied as a liquid under REACH registration and handled in accordance with standard amine transport classifications. Typical packaging includes IBC containers and bulk tankers. Buyers should confirm grade specifications and purity certificates directly with the supplier prior to procurement.
