2-Hydroxyisopropyl acrylate (CAS 2918-23-2) is a hydroxyl-functional acrylic monomer, also referred to as 1,2-Propanediol 2-acrylate and 1-Hydroxy-2-propyl acrylate. It is the secondary alcohol isomer of hydroxypropyl acrylate, distinguished by the hydroxyl group positioned on the tertiary carbon rather than the primary position.
In UV-curable coatings and radiation-crosslinked adhesives, the pendant hydroxyl group reacts with isocyanates or melamine resins to form covalent network structures, increasing hardness and chemical resistance. In acrylic polymer synthesis, it introduces reactive sites for post-polymerization functionalization, enabling controlled grafting in pressure-sensitive adhesive and sealant formulations.
