Description

2-Hydroxyphosphonoacetic acid (CAS 23783-26-8, EC 405-710-8) is an organophosphonic acid supplied as an oil, commonly identified by the abbreviations HPA and the trade name Belcor 575. It carries no assigned E-code and is also referenced as phosphonoglycolic acid in technical literature.

In water treatment, HPA functions as a chelating agent that binds calcium and magnesium ions to inhibit scale formation on heat exchanger surfaces. In coatings and adhesive formulations, it stabilises emulsions by sequestering metal contaminants that would otherwise destabilise the polymer matrix, while its buffering capacity supports controlled pH during processing.

HPA is available for industrial and personal care applications and falls under REACH registration requirements for supply within the EU. It is relevant to formulators working under cosmetic compliance frameworks where it serves as a skin conditioner and preservation aid. Packaging formats are available on request from our supply team.
