2-Methyl-1-[4-(methylthio)phenyl]-2-morpholino-1-propanone (CAS 71868-10-5, EC 400-600-6) is an alpha-aminoketone photoinitiator commercially known as Irgacure 907, CACCURE 907, and IR 907. It belongs to the morpholino-ketone class of Type II photoinitiators and carries no assigned E-code for food applications.
In UV-curable coatings and printing inks, it generates reactive radicals upon UV exposure by undergoing alpha-cleavage, triggering free-radical polymerization of acrylate and methacrylate monomers. It is particularly effective in pigmented systems and is frequently paired with co-initiators such as DETX to extend spectral response into longer UV wavelengths, improving cure depth in opaque formulations.
