Description

3-Benzylidene camphor (CAS 15087-24-8) is a camphor-derived UV filter used in cosmetic formulations, commercially available under trade names including Eusolex 6900, Ultracyd, Ultren BK, and Unisol S-22. It carries no assigned E-code and is identified under EC number 239-139-9 with the molecular formula C17H20O.

In sunscreen and photoprotective cosmetic products, 3-benzylidene camphor absorbs UV radiation in the UVB range, converting photon energy into heat rather than allowing it to damage skin or degrade formulation components. It is also incorporated into hair care products to protect both the hair fiber and colorants from UV-induced degradation.

The material is supplied for use within REACH-registered supply chains and must comply with applicable EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 concentration limits. Procurement teams should confirm supplier documentation includes a full safety data sheet and certificate of analysis aligned with current regulatory requirements.
