Description
3-Butenyltriethoxysilane (CAS 57813-67-9, formula C10H22O3Si) is an organosilane coupling agent also referenced under the names 4-Triethoxysilyl-1-butene and but-3-enyl(triethoxy)silane. It carries a terminal alkene group alongside a triethoxy silyl head, giving it dual reactivity toward both organic polymers and inorganic surfaces.
In rubber compounding and polymer systems, the ethoxy groups hydrolyze and bond covalently to silica or glass fiber surfaces, while the pendant vinyl group participates in free-radical or hydrosilylation cross-linking reactions. This dual mechanism improves filler dispersion and interfacial adhesion in tire compounds and fiber-reinforced composites. In electronics encapsulants, it functions as a reactive diluent that anchors resin networks to substrate surfaces.
This material is supplied for industrial and research use and falls under REACH registration obligations for quantities above one tonne per year within the EU. Procurement teams should confirm supplier SDS documentation and purity specifications prior to formulation trials. Standard packaging formats include drums and intermediate bulk containers.
