Description
3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (CAS 2530-83-8), commonly known as GLYMO or by the trade designation Z-6040, is an epoxy-functional organosilane coupling agent. It carries no assigned E-code. The molecule bridges organic polymer matrices and inorganic substrates through dual reactive functionality: a hydrolysable trimethoxysilyl group and an epoxy group.
In epoxy coatings and adhesive formulations, GLYMO bonds the organic resin network to glass, metal, or mineral fillers by forming covalent siloxane linkages at the inorganic surface while the epoxide reacts into the polymer chain. In electronics encapsulants and printed circuit board laminates, this mechanism reduces delamination under thermal cycling. It also functions as a crosslinker in sealant systems and as a conditioning agent in personal care formulations.
GLYMO is supplied as a neat liquid and is subject to REACH registration within the EU. Procurement quantities typically range from drums to IBC totes. Buyers should request a current Safety Data Sheet and confirm lot-specific purity specifications prior to formulation use.
