Description
4-Octylphenol (CAS 1806-26-4) is a para-substituted alkylphenol produced by the alkylation of phenol with octene, commonly abbreviated as POP and also referred to as p-Octylphenol or Octyl Phenol. It serves as a key intermediate in the synthesis of ethoxylated nonionic surfactants and is registered under EC number 217-302-5.
In textile and leather processing, 4-Octylphenol acts as a precursor to octylphenol ethoxylates, which lower interfacial tension between fiber substrates and aqueous baths to enable uniform dye penetration. In polymer and rubber production, it functions as a reactive monomer and antioxidant stabilizer, inhibiting oxidative chain degradation during high-temperature processing.
4-Octylphenol is supplied as a neat solid and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU, with restrictions applicable to certain end-use applications under SVHC candidate list considerations. Procurement teams should confirm current regulatory status before formulation. Standard packaging includes drums and IBCs.
