Description
4-tert-Octylphenol monoethoxylate (CAS 2315-67-5) is a short-chain nonionic surfactant produced by ethoxylation of 4-tert-octylphenol with a single mole of ethylene oxide. It is also referenced under the names 2-(p-Octylphenoxy)ethanol, NSC 5259, and Octoxynol-3, and carries EC number 621-345-9.
In textile processing, it functions as a low-foam emulsifier and scouring agent, reducing interfacial tension between fiber-bound oils and aqueous bath solutions to enable their removal. In agrochemical formulations, it serves as a carrier and dispersant, improving the wetting and spreading of active ingredients across leaf surfaces. Its moderate HLB value also supports oil-in-water emulsion stability in industrial cleaning concentrates.
The material is supplied as a solid and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. Procurement teams should confirm SVHC status and request a current Safety Data Sheet, as alkylphenol ethoxylates face increasing regulatory scrutiny across European markets. Standard packaging formats should be confirmed with the supplier at time of inquiry.
