5,8,11-Eicosatrienoic acid, commonly known as Mead acid or ETrE, is a naturally occurring omega-9 polyunsaturated fatty acid with the molecular formula C20H34O2 (CAS 20590-32-3, EC 200-578-6). It carries no assigned E-code and is biosynthesised endogenously in mammals under conditions of essential fatty acid deficiency.

In pharmaceutical and nutraceutical formulations, Mead acid functions as a lipid-phase antioxidant stabiliser, helping to protect membrane-mimetic systems against oxidative degradation. In personal care applications, it integrates into emollient matrices where its unsaturated chain structure supports intercellular lipid organisation and moisture retention in skin barrier formulations.
