Description

Acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC, CAS 77-90-7) is a citric acid-based plasticizer commercially available under trade names including Citroflex A and Citroflex A 4, and registered under FEMA 3080 for flavoring applications. It carries no E-number designation in the EU.

In PVC and biopolymer film formulations, ATBC increases chain mobility by reducing intermolecular forces between polymer strands, yielding flexible, low-migration films suitable for food contact packaging. It also functions as a flavor carrier and emollient in food and personal care applications, where its ester structure improves spreadability and retention of aromatic compounds.

ATBC is supplied in food-grade and technical-grade forms, with food-grade material conforming to FCC specifications and REACH registration requirements applicable within the EU. Standard packaging includes drums and IBC containers. Procurement teams should confirm grade suitability against relevant food contact regulations, including EU Regulation 10/2011 for plastic food contact materials.
