Description

Acetyl triethyl citrate (ATEC, CAS 77-89-4) is a citric acid ester plasticizer commercially available under trade names including Citroflex A 2 and NSC 3887. It belongs to the acetylated citrate ester family and carries no E-code designation, distinguishing it from food-approved citrate esters such as ATBC.

In PVC and cellulose-based polymer formulations, ATEC reduces glass transition temperature and improves film flexibility by disrupting polymer chain interactions. It also functions as a solvent and carrier in pharmaceutical film coatings, where it aids binder dispersion and controls release layer integrity in tablet and capsule applications.

ATEC is supplied in liquid form and is available in technical and pharmaceutical-grade specifications, with compliance to Ph.Eur. and FCC standards depending on grade. It falls under REACH regulation (EC 1907/2006) and is classified under HS code 2918150000. Packaging typically includes drums and IBC containers for bulk procurement.
