Description

Acid Blue 74, commonly known as indigotine or E 132 (CI 73015), is a synthetic indigo-derived colorant registered under CAS 860-22-0. It is supplied as a disodium salt and recognised by its characteristic blue-purple hue. Trade references include 1311 Blue and 12070 Blue.

In food and beverage manufacturing, E 132 is used at low concentrations to achieve blue or violet shades in confectionery, beverages, and coatings, where it functions as a water-soluble dye that disperses uniformly in aqueous systems. In pharmaceuticals, it serves as a tablet coating colorant, and in textiles it is applied as a direct dye to natural fibres.

Acid Blue 74 is available in food-grade and technical-grade forms, with compliance documentation available for E 132 (EU food regulations), FCC, and Ph.Eur. standards. The product falls under HS code 32041200 and is subject to REACH registration requirements for industrial supply within the European Economic Area.
