In water treatment and mining operations, acrylamide undergoes free-radical polymerization to form polyacrylamide chains that bridge suspended particles, enabling coagulation and flocculation of fine solids from process streams. In oil and gas applications, the same polymerization mechanism produces high-molecular-weight gels used to modify fluid rheology during enhanced recovery operations.
