Description

Acryloyloxyethyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride (CAS 46830-22-2), commonly abbreviated as DABC and sold under trade names including Adamquat BZ 80 and Flockstar PCB 23, is a quaternary ammonium monomer carrying both a polymerizable acryloyl group and a permanent cationic charge. It carries no assigned E-code.

In water treatment, DABC is incorporated into cationic polyelectrolytes where its quaternary nitrogen anchors to negatively charged suspended particles, driving coagulation and flocculation. In textile and paper processing, it is copolymerized into surface-modifying agents that permanently bond cationic character to fiber substrates, improving dye uptake and wet strength without relying on pH-dependent ionization.

DABC is supplied as a clear aqueous solution, with Adamquat BZ 80 typically standardized at 80% active content. The substance is registered under REACH and must be handled in accordance with applicable CLP classification requirements. Procurement teams should confirm exact active-content grade and packaging format with the supplier prior to ordering.
