Allyl methacrylate

Allyl methacrylate (AMA, CAS 96-05-9) is a bifunctional monomer carrying both allyl and methacrylate reactive groups within a single molecule. It is commercially available under trade names including Visiomer AMA, Ageflex AMA, and Acryester A. No E-code designation applies to this substance.

In polymer coatings and UV-curable systems, AMA acts as a cross-linking comonomer: the methacrylate group polymerises rapidly while the pendant allyl group remains available for subsequent curing, enabling staged network formation and improved film hardness. In adhesive and sealant formulations, this dual reactivity allows controlled cross-link density, directly influencing cohesive strength and thermal resistance.

AMA is supplied as a stabilised clear liquid and falls under REACH registration requirements for European supply. Procurement teams should confirm inhibitor type and concentration, as grades vary between suppliers. Standard packaging includes drums and IBC containers, with documentation typically covering SDS, CoA, and REACH compliance confirmation.
