Aluminium phosphate

Aluminium phosphate (CAS 7784-30-7) is an inorganic salt commercially known under trade names including Aluphos, Phosphalugel, and FFB 32. It carries no assigned E-code for food use in the EU and is registered under EC number 232-056-9 with the molecular formula Al.H3O4P.

In water treatment, aluminium phosphate acts as a coagulant, destabilising suspended particles so they aggregate and settle for removal. In pharmaceutical formulations, it functions as an antacid and gel-forming agent, neutralising excess gastric acid through direct buffering. Building and construction applications exploit its flame-retardant properties, where it inhibits combustion by forming a protective phosphate char layer on substrates.

Aluminium phosphate is available in powder and gel grades, with pharmaceutical-grade material conforming to Ph.Eur. specifications and industrial grades supplied under REACH compliance.
