Aluminum silicate (Al2SiO5)

Aluminum silicate (Al2SiO5, CAS 12141-46-7) is an inorganic mineral compound occurring in several naturally derived polymorphic forms, including andalusite and kaolinite. It is commercially supplied under trade names such as Pyrax ABB and Kerphalite. No E-code designation applies to this substance.

In rubber and tire compounding, aluminum silicate functions as a reinforcing filler and rheology modifier, improving compound stiffness and dimensional stability under processing conditions. In pulp and paper manufacturing, it controls coating viscosity and enhances sheet opacity by modifying the flow behavior of aqueous slurries. Building and construction applications use it as a functional filler in cementitious and polymer-based systems.

Aluminum silicate is available in fibrous and particulate grades, with particle size and surface area specifications varying by application. The substance is registered under REACH and must be handled in accordance with applicable EU occupational exposure regulations. Procurement in bulk quantities is standard for industrial supply chains.
