Ammonium laureth sulfate

Ammonium Laureth Sulfate (ALES) is an ethoxylated ammonium sulfate surfactant registered under CAS 32612-48-9 and EC 608-760-0. It is commercially available under trade names including Cycloryl MD, Sipon LEA 25, and Richinol RS 1300, with POE(1) denoting the single ethylene oxide unit in the standard grade.

In shampoo and body wash formulations, ALES functions as a primary anionic surfactant, reducing interfacial tension to lift sebum and particulate soil from hair and skin while generating stable foam. Its ethoxylated structure improves mildness relative to non-ethoxylated sulfates, making it suitable for frequent-use personal care products where scalp tolerance is a formulation requirement.

ALES is supplied in liquid concentrate form at typical active matter levels of 25-30%. It falls under REACH registration obligations for EU market supply and must comply with the EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 when used in finished personal care products.
