Ammonium lauryl sulfate

Ammonium lauryl sulfate (ALS, CAS 2235-54-3) is an anionic surfactant derived from lauryl alcohol and sulfuric acid, neutralised with ammonia. It is commercially available under trade names including Sinopon, Presulin, Neopon LAM, Akypo SALS 33, and Naxolate AS-AL30. No E-code designation applies to this substance.

In personal care formulations, ALS functions as a primary foaming and cleansing agent by lowering interfacial tension to lift oils and particulates from hair and skin surfaces. In industrial coatings and adhesive systems, it acts as an emulsifier during polymerisation, stabilising latex dispersions and supporting uniform particle distribution throughout the matrix.

ALS is supplied as a liquid, typically at 28-30% active content, and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. Procurement teams should confirm compliance documentation including Safety Data Sheets aligned with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006. Packaging formats commonly include IBC containers and bulk tanker delivery.
