Description

Ammonium oleate (CAS 544-60-5, EC 208-873-1) is the ammonium salt of oleic acid, formed by neutralising oleic acid with ammonia. It is also known by the trade designations DEF 115, DEF 116, and DEF 116T, as well as the common synonym ammonia soap.

In textile processing, ammonium oleate functions as an emulsifier and scouring agent, reducing interfacial tension between fibre lubricants and water to allow their removal. In leather finishing, it disperses fatliquoring agents evenly across the hide. Personal care formulators use it as an emulsification aid in cream and lotion systems where a mild, soap-based emulsifier is required.

Ammonium oleate is supplied as a yellow-brown paste and is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU-based procurement. It carries no assigned E-code, confirming it is not approved for food use. Buyers should request a full safety data sheet and confirm grade specification against intended application requirements.
