Description

Ammonium stearate (CAS 1002-89-7) is the ammonium salt of stearic acid, commercially available under trade names including Stokal STA, Ligafluid, YC 81, and DC 100A. It carries no assigned E-code and is categorised within salts and minerals. The molecular formula is C18H36O2.H3N.

In textile and leather processing, ammonium stearate functions as an emulsifier by reducing interfacial tension between fatty components and water, enabling stable aqueous dispersions for finishing baths. In rubber compounding, it acts as a dispersing agent for fillers and pigments, improving homogeneity within the compound matrix. Building and construction formulators use it as a foam stabiliser and rheology modifier in cement-based systems.

Ammonium stearate is supplied as a cream to light yellow powder and is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU market supply. Buyers should confirm grade specification against intended application, as purity and free fatty acid content vary between suppliers. Standard packaging formats include paper sacks and bulk bags.
