Ascorbyl stearate

Ascorbyl Stearate (CAS 10605-09-1, E 305 / E304ii) is a fat-soluble ester of vitamin C and stearic acid. It is also referred to as L-Ascorbyl Stearate or Ascorbyl 6-Stearate and functions as a lipophilic antioxidant, making it compatible with oil-based systems where standard ascorbic acid cannot be applied.

In food manufacturing, it protects fats and oils from oxidative rancidity by scavenging free radicals within lipid matrices, extending shelf life in products such as edible oils and fat-containing bakery goods. In cosmetic formulations, it stabilises emulsions and lipid-rich creams while simultaneously delivering antioxidant activity to the skin.

Ascorbyl Stearate is available in food-grade and cosmetic-grade solid form, compliant with E 305 specifications under EU food additive regulations and assessable under REACH. It is supplied in standard industrial packaging and meets FCC and Ph.Eur. reference standards where applicable.
