Description

Barium Carbonate (CAS 513-77-9) is an inorganic barium salt occurring naturally as the mineral Witherite. It is also referenced under the pigment designation C.I. 77099 and Pigment White 10. It carries no assigned E-code and is identified under EC number 208-167-3.

In electronics manufacturing, Barium Carbonate serves as a precursor in the sintering of barium titanate ceramics, where it reacts at high temperatures to form dielectric components used in capacitors. In glass and specialty ceramics production, it acts as a flux and stabiliser, suppressing crystallisation defects. Water treatment applications exploit its alkalinity to neutralise acidic effluents and precipitate heavy metal contaminants.

Barium Carbonate is supplied as a fine white powder in technical and high-purity grades, with particle size specifications available to suit ceramic or chemical synthesis requirements. The substance is registered under REACH and subject to authorisation controls given its classification as a toxic barium compound. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags and bulk options.
