Description
Barium chloride (BaCl2), also known as barium dichloride or barium muriate, is an inorganic barium salt with CAS 10361-37-2 and EC 233-788-1. It carries no E-code designation and is not approved for food applications. It is commercially available as a white crystalline powder or in bead form.
In water treatment, barium chloride precipitates sulfate ions as insoluble barium sulfate, enabling removal of sulfate contaminants from process streams. In textile and leather processing, it acts as a mordant and fixative, improving dye uptake and binding agents to fiber substrates. It also serves as a catalyst precursor and flame-retardant additive in select industrial formulations.
Barium chloride is supplied in technical and industrial grades, compliant with REACH registration requirements applicable in the EU. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags and bulk quantities depending on grade and application. Procurement teams should verify SDS documentation and confirm supplier REACH compliance prior to sourcing.
