Baryte

Baryte (CAS 13462-86-7, EC 236-664-5), also known as barite, Albaryt, Fleur, and Barit, is a naturally occurring barium sulfate mineral with the formula BaSO4·H2O. It carries no E-code designation and is classified within the Salts & Minerals category.

In oil and gas drilling, baryte is added to drilling muds to increase fluid density, controlling downhole pressure and preventing blowouts. In plastics and coatings, its high specific gravity and chemical inertness make it effective as a filler for rheology modification and surface weighting, improving dimensional stability and flow behavior in polymer compounds.

Baryte is available in multiple grades differentiated by purity and particle size, including API-grade for drilling applications and filler-grade for industrial use. It is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. Packaging formats typically include bulk bags and loose bulk supply depending on application volume.
