Description

Basic chromium sulfate (CAS 39380-78-4) is an inorganic chromium(III) salt commercially available under trade names including Neochrome, Chromosal B, Chromedol, Peachrome, and Chromium Bisulfate. It carries no E-code designation and is categorised under salts and minerals for industrial supply.

In leather tanning, basic chromium sulfate reacts with collagen fibres to form stable cross-links, increasing the hydrothermal resistance and durability of hides. It is also applied in textile dyeing as a mordant, fixing metal-complex dyes to fibre surfaces through coordination bonding, and in mineral processing as a surface-modifying agent to alter flotation behaviour of ore particles.

Basic chromium sulfate is supplied as a solid and must comply with REACH registration requirements for industrial use within the EU. Procurement should confirm supplier SDS documentation and chromium(III) content specification, as grade consistency directly affects process reproducibility in tanning and dyeing operations.
