Description

Behentrimonium Methosulfate (BTMS) is a quaternary ammonium compound registered under CAS 81646-13-1 and EC 279-791-1. It is commercially available as BTMS 25 and BTMS 50, and sold under trade names including Varisoft BTMS and Incroquat BTQ 25C. It carries no E-code designation and is used exclusively in leave-on and rinse-off personal care formulations.

In hair conditioners and conditioning creams, BTMS functions as a cationic emulsifier by adsorbing onto negatively charged hair fibres, reducing static and improving combability. It also builds viscosity and stabilises oil-in-water emulsions in skin care products, providing structure without requiring additional thickeners.

BTMS is supplied in two primary grades: BTMS 25 (25% active) and BTMS 50 (50% active), typically as waxy solids or pellets. The substance is registered under REACH and must comply with EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009 when used in finished products. Standard packaging includes fibre drums and lined cardboard boxes.
