Description

Beta-Carotene (CAS 7235-40-7, EC 230-636-6, formula C40H56) is a naturally occurring carotenoid pigment also known as β,β-Carotene or B-Carotene. It serves as a provitamin A precursor and is commercially available under various trade designations across food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical markets.

In food and beverage manufacturing, Beta-Carotene functions as an orange-yellow colorant, imparting stable hue to margarines, beverages, and dairy products through its light-absorbing chromophore structure. In personal care formulations, it acts as a skin conditioner and antioxidant, scavenging free radicals to protect emulsions and active ingredients from oxidative degradation.

Beta-Carotene is supplied in powder form across food-grade (FCC), cosmetic-grade, and Ph.Eur.-compliant specifications. It falls under REACH registration requirements within the EU and is classified under HS code 29362100. Packaging formats typically include fibre drums and aluminium-lined bags to protect against light and oxygen exposure.
