Description

Betaine (CAS 107-43-7), also known by the abbreviations BET and Bet, and by the trade names Acidol and Oxyneurine, is a naturally occurring amino acid derivative found in sugar beet and other plant sources. It carries no E-code designation. Its zwitterionic structure gives it strong osmolytic and hygroscopic properties.

In personal care formulations, betaine functions as a skin conditioner by attracting and retaining moisture at the cellular level, reducing transepidermal water loss. In food and feed applications, it acts as an osmoprotectant, supporting cellular integrity under osmotic stress. Its mild antimicrobial activity also contributes to preservation in topical and nutritional products.

Betaine is available in pharmaceutical-grade (Ph.Eur.) and food-grade (FCC) forms as a white crystalline powder. It is fully REACH-registered for supply within the EU and EEA. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags, with bulk options available on request.
