Description
Bis(3-aminopropyl)methylamine (CAS 105-83-9, EC 203-336-8) is a trifunctional amine supplied as a liquid, commonly identified by the abbreviations MIBPA and BAPA and the trade names Methylimino Bis Propylamine and N-Methylbis(aminopropyl)amine. It carries two primary amine groups flanking a tertiary nitrogen centre, giving it a distinctive triamine architecture.
In epoxy coatings and adhesives, the two primary amines react with epoxide groups to build crosslinked networks, while the central tertiary nitrogen accelerates cure kinetics without consuming a reactive site. In water treatment and oilfield chemistry, the same tertiary nitrogen enables metal ion chelation and acts as an adsorption anchor for corrosion inhibition on steel surfaces.
Bis(3-aminopropyl)methylamine is supplied in standard industrial grades and falls under REACH registration requirements for European market supply. It carries no assigned E-code and is not compendial under Ph.Eur. or FCC. Typical packaging includes IBC containers and drums; HS code 2921.29.0055 applies for import classification.
