Bismuth subnitrate

Bismuth subnitrate (CAS 1304-85-4) is an inorganic bismuth salt also known as basic bismuth nitrate, bismuth oxynitrate, or bismuth nitrate oxide. It carries no assigned E-code and is commercially identified under the EC number 215-136-8 with the molecular formula Bi5H9N4O22.

In pharmaceutical formulations, bismuth subnitrate functions as a mild antacid and gastrointestinal protective agent, neutralising excess stomach acid through its buffering capacity.
