Bronopol

Bronopol (CAS 52-51-7) is a bromine-based antimicrobial and flame retardant compound with the molecular formula C3H6BrNO4. It is sold under trade names including Bronocot, BRONOTAK, Bronidiol, and Myacide AS, and carries no assigned E-code for food applications.

In water treatment and industrial cooling systems, bronopol controls bacterial growth, including sulfate-reducing bacteria, by releasing formaldehyde and acting as an oxidising biocide at low concentrations.
