Description

Butyl stearate is a fatty acid ester produced by reacting stearic acid with n-butanol, supplied under trade names including Apex 4, Witcizer 200, Polycizer 332, and Kesscoflex BS, and also referenced under FEMA 2214. It carries no E-code designation and is catalogued under CAS 123-95-5 and EC 204-666-5.

In personal care formulations, butyl stearate functions as an emollient and emulsion stabilizer by reducing interfacial tension between oil and water phases, improving spreadability and skin feel. In metalworking and industrial lubricant blends, it acts as a boundary lubricant, forming a thin ester film on metal surfaces to reduce friction and tool wear.

Butyl stearate is available in cosmetic and technical grades, with select grades meeting FCC specifications for flavour applications. The substance is registered under REACH and fully compliant with EU chemical regulations. Standard packaging includes drums and IBC containers, with bulk supply available on request.
