Description

Butyloctyl Salicylate (CAS 190085-41-7, EC 431-090-3) is a salicylate ester used primarily in personal care and cosmetic formulations. It is commercially available under the trade name HallBrite BHB. No E-code designation applies to this ingredient.

In sunscreen and UV-protective formulations, it absorbs UVB radiation while simultaneously functioning as an emollient carrier that improves the spreadability and skin feel of oil-phase systems. It also serves as a solvent for other UV filters, such as avobenzone, helping to prevent crystallisation and maintain photostability in finished products.

Butyloctyl Salicylate is supplied as a liquid and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the European Union. Procurement teams should verify supplier Safety Data Sheets for compliance documentation and confirm suitability against relevant cosmetic regulatory frameworks, including EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009, before specification.
