Description

C.I. Pigment Red 48, barium salt (CAS 7585-41-3) is an azo pigment of the beta-naphthol sulphonic acid class, commercially known under trade names including Fast Red 2BW, Rubine Toner BT, Eljon Rubine BS, and Rubine Toner BA. It carries the Colour Index designation C.I. 15865:1 and belongs to the laked pigment family, where barium ions coordinate with the azo dye to form an insoluble complex.

In printing inks, the pigment delivers strong bluish-red hues in offset and flexographic formulations, where its particle surface chemistry supports wetting and dispersion in oil- and resin-based vehicles. In coatings and plastics, the barium lake structure provides resistance to bleed-out, making it suitable for pigmenting PVC compounds and solvent-borne industrial coatings where colour migration must be controlled.

This pigment is supplied in powder form and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the European Economic Area. Procurement teams should verify supplier Safety Data Sheets for classification under CLP and confirm compliance with any end-use restrictions applicable to food-contact or toy-related applications.
