Description

Calcium acetate (CAS 62-54-4) is the calcium salt of acetic acid, commercially available under trade names including MAGGRAN CA and historically known as lime acetate, gray acetate, or brown acetate. It carries FEMA designation 2228 and is recognised under EC number 200-540-9.

In food and pharmaceutical manufacturing, calcium acetate functions as a pH buffer by releasing acetate ions that resist acidic or alkaline shifts in formulations. In personal care, it acts as a skin conditioner and mild antimicrobial agent, while in chemical synthesis it serves as a catalyst, particularly in acetone and ketone production processes.

Calcium acetate is supplied in food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade forms meeting FCC and Ph.Eur. standards, with REACH compliance applicable for industrial supply within the EU. It is classified under HS code 29152990 and is typically available in powder form in various packaging formats suited to bulk procurement.
