Description

Calcium bromate (CAS 10102-75-7, EC 233-278-9) is an inorganic calcium salt of bromic acid, also supplied as calcium bromate monohydrate. It carries no assigned E-code and is not classified as a food additive under current EU regulations. It is commercially available at purities of 98% and 99.9%.

In water treatment, calcium bromate acts as an oxidising biocide, releasing bromate ions that disrupt microbial cell function at low concentrations. It has historically been evaluated as a flour treatment agent, where bromate ions strengthen gluten networks through oxidative cross-linking of dough proteins, though regulatory restrictions now limit this application in many jurisdictions.

Calcium bromate is sourced in high-purity grades suitable for industrial and analytical applications and falls under REACH registration requirements for EU supply. Procurement should account for its classification as a bromate compound subject to national drinking water and food safety regulations. Standard packaging formats include sealed drums and multi-layer bags.
