Description

Calcium Caprylate (CAS 6107-56-8, EC 228-067-3), also known as Calcium Octoate, Calcium Octanoate, or Calcium Octylate, is the calcium salt of caprylic acid with the formula C8H16O2.1/2Ca. It carries no assigned E-code and is commercially available under trade names such as Octlife Ca.

In coatings and sealant formulations, Calcium Caprylate functions as a drier catalyst and cross-linking promoter, accelerating oxidative curing of alkyd resins by facilitating metal-ion coordination within the polymer network. In lubricant and metalworking applications, it acts as a friction-reducing additive, where the calcium carboxylate structure provides boundary lubrication and mild anti-wear protection.

Calcium Caprylate is subject to REACH registration requirements for supply within the European Economic Area. It is handled under standard chemical procurement frameworks and should be requested with a current Safety Data Sheet confirming grade specification and purity. Buyers should confirm packaging format and lot documentation directly with the supplier.
