Description
Calcium Disodium EDTA (CAS 23411-34-9), also known as Edetate Calcium Disodium or calcium disodium edetate, is a chelating agent formed by the combination of EDTA with calcium and sodium. It carries no assigned E-code and is recognised under EC number 607-231-1.
In pharmaceutical formulations, it acts as a heavy metal scavenger, binding free iron and copper ions that would otherwise catalyse oxidative degradation of active ingredients. In food processing, it sequesters trace metal contaminants in emulsified and canned products, preventing discolouration and rancidity by removing the metal cofactors that drive lipid oxidation.
Calcium Disodium EDTA is available in pharmaceutical and food-grade specifications, with compliance referenced against Ph.Eur. and FCC monographs. It is subject to REACH registration requirements within the European Union. Standard supply formats include solid powder in multi-kilogram bags or fibre drums suited to industrial procurement volumes.
