Calcium formate

Calcium formate (CAS 544-17-2, E 328) is the calcium salt of formic acid, supplied as a fine crystalline powder under trade names including Calcoform and Ronasil CF. It is approved as a food additive in the EU under E 328 and classified under HS code 29151200.

In animal feed and food applications, calcium formate lowers gastrointestinal pH, inhibiting pathogenic bacteria such as Salmonella and E. coli through acidification rather than direct toxicity. In construction, it accelerates cement hydration by promoting early calcium silicate hydrate formation, reducing set times in cold-weather concreting.

Calcium formate is available in feed-grade, food-grade (FCC compliant), and technical grades, with REACH registration covering industrial applications across the EU.
