Description

Calcium Gluconate (CAS 299-28-5) is the calcium salt of gluconic acid, registered as E578 under EU food additive legislation. It is also known by trade names including Glucal, Ebucin, Kalpren, and Calcicol, and carries EC number 206-075-8 with molecular formula C6H12O7·1/2Ca.

In food and beverage production, it functions as a firming agent and pH buffer, stabilising texture in canned vegetables and dairy products by regulating acidity without imparting off-flavours. In pharmaceutical and personal care formulations, it acts as a calcium-delivery agent and chelator, binding free metal ions that would otherwise accelerate oxidative degradation of active ingredients.

Calcium Gluconate is available in food-grade (E578, FCC), pharmaceutical-grade (Ph.Eur.), and cosmetic-grade specifications, supplied as crystalline powder or granules. The substance is fully REACH-registered and compliant with EU Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags, with bulk options available on request.
